Everyone's thinking about it but it doesn't seem like anyone is very willing to talk about it. You know what I'm talking about.

It's that damn 40th Anniversary dvd release of Mary Poppins. Let's just stop ignoring it like an elephant in the room that nobody's talking about!

Once and for all let's finally reach an agreement: What's the story between Mary and Bert?

Their's is a friendly, and strictly platonic love - I submit to that. But what I'm curious about are their darting glances and knowing smiles whenever "the past" is brought up.

And who are these magical, musical Limeys anyhoo? As luck would have it, I have a theory!

I think that Mary and Bert (more so Mary than Bert... okay just Mary)are ....wait for it.....physical manifestations of jolly old London itself!

Much like the Freeway Sign Post in Steve Martin's LA Story, London sees people in trouble and it wants to help them. In this case, the Banks family of #17 Cherry Tree Lane.

Of course, it (London) has different incarnations for specific needs, but when a certain one arises (read: children), that's when the wind changes and a special nanny blows into town. It's the only logical explanation. She admits to having a long history of helping children. And is admittedly never around very long.

As for her past relationship with Bert, and the subtle hints of romance? Please. London's always been in love with itself.

So how about this horrible tsunami - I can't even fathom the numbers.

By my rudimentary calculations - it'll end up being like 18 september 11ths.

I sincerely hope someone calls for a War on Nature. That'll teach it. The only way to protect ourselves from future terror attacks by Nature is to attack the very heart of Nature itself.
