Chptr 3, page 873:
This country's Rocky Mountain range, lovingly nicknamed "The Rockies", act as more than a physical continental divide. Somewhere in it's peaks lies a psychological divide as well that seperates this county in two.

Something unpleasantly dark was found there, where the true nature of the frontier showed it's ugly face in Donner Party-fashion.

To this day, California is still in the habit of eating it's young.

Just look at the lives of discarded child actors, strewn about like bones picked-clean. Reminders of the frontier menatle ingrained in us all.
